Metal building foundation design in East Texas

A metal building package and a concrete foundation need to work together. Davis Engineering develops a project-specific foundation design for shops, warehouses, and other metal buildings.

For building owners, contractors, and metal building suppliers

A scope built around your project

Whether you are planning a shop, a commercial warehouse, or a pre-engineered metal building, start foundation coordination before the concrete scope is finalized. The building dimensions alone do not establish the foundation requirements. The structural reactions, anchor layout, site conditions, and intended use all affect the design.

Building reactions & foundation coordination

We review the available building documents and design reactions to coordinate the foundation with the supplied framing system. Column locations, uplift, shear, moments, and any special equipment or crane requirements need to be identified. Changes to the building package can affect the foundation, so the current drawings and reaction information matter.

Slabs, footings & grade beams

The foundation scope can include column foundations, grade beams, and slab design appropriate to the building and intended use. Tell us about vehicles, storage, equipment, and floor requirements so those needs can be considered. A slab serving as a floor is not automatically the same as the foundation supporting the building.

Anchor bolts & construction details

Anchorage needs coordination between the building supplier, the foundation design, and the contractor. The agreed drawings identify relevant layout, reinforcement, and construction details. Anchor changes, field substitutions, and unexpected conditions should be reviewed before installation or concrete placement.

Soils & site information

Available geotechnical recommendations and site information help establish the design basis. If additional investigation or survey information is needed, we identify that requirement during scoping. Foundation engineering and a geotechnical investigation are separate services; the proposal identifies what is included and how coordination will occur.

What to send us

A few useful details help us discuss the engineering scope and provide a project-specific proposal.

  • Building supplier drawings and design reactions
  • Building size, column layout, and anchor information
  • Property location, site plan, and available geotechnical report
  • Planned floor use, equipment, and construction schedule

The proposal confirms the services, deliverables, fee, and schedule. Additional investigation, field visits, or revisions are identified separately when needed.

Common questions

Can you design from building dimensions alone?

Dimensions help define the project, but building reactions and site information are also needed. We will review the available package and identify missing inputs before finalizing the design basis.

Does the building supplier provide the foundation?

Some packages include foundation information and others do not. Send the supplier documents so we can establish the required foundation scope and avoid gaps between the building and concrete work.

Is this the same as residential foundation design?

No. Metal building foundations are coordinated with the building framing reactions and anchorage. For a new home, visit our separate residential foundation design page.

Start with your project.

Send the location, available documents, and the decision you need to make. We will discuss the scope and next steps.
